A Proven Concept
TheJames:AffectCaseStudy.
10 years of addiction. A failed rehab stay. Then a rebuilt business, a rebuilt relationship, and a new daily life he loves.
Chapter 01
The Problem
James attended a rehab facility in Bali to start his recovery from 10 years of alcohol addiction and 5 years of cocaine addiction. After 12 years of no real contact, he reached out ready to own his recovery. He left rehab by mutual consent after only 10 days of a 28-day program. Knowing I was clean and living well, he simply asked to learn from me how to recover. He was a complete mess when he arrived at my villa. This is how The James: Affect was born and is now a proven concept.
Chapter 02
The Process
James moved into my villa straight from rehab. We sat down together, wrote out the ground rules, and designed his daily schedule to give him structure and healthy distractions. I built a relationship with his girlfriend back in England, who I'd never met, to act as a support worker, and gave him space during the day to focus on his work.
Chapter 03
The Daily Schedule
James was highly motivated to stay off alcohol and drugs, and he put his full trust in the process. I encouraged him to keep an open mind and try new things to see what might serve as healthy distractions. We spent the final 7 days of his 18-day stay building his Daily Schedule for the return to England, drawing on every clinical interaction and activity he'd taken part in. For most rehabbers, going back to the real world is terrifying. This is where The James: Affect is different: we give you the tools, support and confidence to return in the best prepared way.
Chapter 04
6 Months On
I remain in weekly contact with James. He has rebuilt his relationship with his girlfriend, they are very much in love again. His business is booming again now that he can focus. He has not used cocaine or any other drug since leaving Bali. He had one drink over Christmas, was quick to call and tell me what happened and why, and has not drunk since. He's at the gym frequently, has lost a lot of weight and gained muscle tone. Like me, he's now a Padel addict and plays almost every day. He chooses friends who don't go out and get blind drunk, keeps weekly therapy sessions to maintain the talking, and has started attending football matches again, without the temptation of drink and drugs that used to come with them.
"He was a complete mess when he arrived at my villa. Six months later, he has the life he always wanted and the tools to keep it."
